Cancer 2020 Action Plan and Targets
Cancer 2020 calls for action in key areas such as diet and nutrition, healthy body weight, physical activity, alcohol consumption, ultraviolet radiation exposure, reduction in tobacco use, environmental and occupational carcinogens, and screening. Cancer 2020 established targets in each of these areas, and created a framework to monitor provincial results.
Cancer 2020 Targets
The Cancer 2020 action plan rests on a foundation of scientific evidence and preventative measures in the avoidance of cancer risk. The plan’s Priorities for Action are based on recommendations of opinion leaders worldwide, and focus on risk factors that are well established and which strongly influence the incidence of cancer. These targets are ambitious but achievable with the right actions and sustained investments in prevention and screening. They provide the benchmark against which progress can be measured.
Targets established by Cancer 2020 include the following areas:
- Tobacco use
- Diet and nutrition
- Healthy body weight
- Physical activity
- Alcohol consumption
- Occupational carcinogens
- Environmental carcinogens
- Ultraviolet radiation exposure
- Viral infections
- Breast screening
- Cervical cancer screening
- Colorectal cancer screening
