Cancer Care Ontario 2008-2011 Information Strategy
The 2008-2011 Information Strategy will guide Cancer Care Ontario’s information, information technology and eHealth initiatives over the next three years. Through this strategy, Ontario will continue to be at the forefront in harnessing information, information technology and eHealth to help transform Ontario’s cancer system into the best in the world.
Five strategic priorities
The five strategic priorities and initiatives outlined in this Strategy will support the goals and priorities of the Ontario Cancer Plan, and enable Cancer Care Ontario and its partners to continually improve cancer services every step of the way.
- Transform cancer care using information, information technology and eHealth
This priority calls for championing the use of health information and technology to achieve transformation and integration of cancer care. To achieve this priority, we intend to:
- Focus on supporting the goals of the Ontario Cancer Plan 2008-2011 with leveraged capability for the health system in general
- Provide eHealth expertise for provincial cancer initiatives and select broader health system initiatives that support the transformation to an integrated health system
- Build out the cancer health system business intelligence architecture
Under this priority, the Information Management / Information Technology department will lead Cancer Care Ontario and the Regional Cancer Programs in the development of a system-wide business intelligence architecture. This includes processes for collection and aggregation of data, and dissemination of information to support cancer care planning, performance management, consumer and public accountability, and an integrated health care system.
- Enable the Regional Cancer Programs
Cancer Care Ontario will enable the Regional Cancer Programs to develop enhanced capabilities in creating, understanding and using information and technology to support the delivery of cancer programs and services.
- Accelerate change through innovation
We will foster innovation in technology and information management deployment to accelerate the cancer and eHealth agendas.
- Strengthen the organization
We will increase Cancer Care Ontario’s capacity for service through a sustainable and scalable business model for information, information technology and eHealth, as well as through enhanced governance and resource management.
