Cancer Care Ontario’s Capital Projects Office acts as an adviser to the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care, to the regional cancer centres, and to their consultants in the planning, construction and commissioning of new, expanded and renovated cancer treatment facilities across Ontario.
The Capital Projects Office manages the provincial annual allocation for radiation treatment equipment replacement, which includes the negotiation of provincial pricing agreements for the supply of equipment, maintenance of the provincial database for radiation treatment equipment and the recommendation process for the annual allocation of funds.
The multidisciplinary team areas of expertise include:
- Needs assessment
- Business case development
- Functional program
- Pre construction operating plan
- Development of process flow to ensure sound design
- Treatment and diagnostic machine recommendations
- Review of drawings, recommending facility layout, including radiation treatment design, millwork and system furniture requirements
- Construction project management
Members of the Capital Projects Office sit on various provincial committees representing the interests of Cancer Care Ontario, regional cancer centres and citizens of Ontario to improve wait times and access to care through the development of modern treatment facilities and related equipment.
