One of the ways in which Cancer Care Ontario continually improves cancer services is by planning cancer services to meet current and future patient needs, and works with health care providers in every Local Health Integration Network to continually improve cancer care for the people they serve.

Cancer Care Ontario’s Planning and Strategic Implementation Program is responsible for long-term planning. The Ontario Cancer Plan is Cancer Care Ontario’s chief planning initiative. It is a three-year roadmap for Cancer Care Ontario, the Ontario government, health care providers and all those involved in cancer prevention and care. It focuses on the most important steps needed to reduce the number of people diagnosed with cancer and to improve patient care. It projects the growth and need for cancer services across the province, and sets out the funding, resources and strategies to meet that need.

This Planning and Strategic Implementation Program supports planning of all new CCO programs and strategic initiatives beginning with policy development through to implementation. This involves promoting innovation in cancer service delivery, clinical care and health human resources.
