• Breast cancer is the most common type of cancer for women in Ontario.
  • In the next year, it is estimated that 8,700 Ontario women will develop breast cancer and approximately 2,100 women will die from breast cancer.
  • Older women are at greatest risk of getting breast cancer.
  • 80% of breast cancers are found in women over 50 years old.
  • Most women diagnosed with breast cancer have no family history of the disease.
  • There is no way to prevent breast cancer yet, but if breast cancer is found early, when it is very small, there is a good chance it can be cured.
