Breast Cancer Screening Letters to Women

Cancer Care Ontario mails letters to women turning 50 inviting them to get screened for breast cancer through the Ontario Breast Screening Program (OBSP). Women between the ages of 51 and 73 years who have not been screened in at least three years also receive a letter inviting them to get screened.

As of March 2015, we send letters to women 50 to 74 years of age reminding them when it is time to return (recall) for screening and informing them of their results, if they are normal. OBSP sites continue to inform women of their results if they are abnormal.

Automatic Enrollment

Taking part is easy. Eligible women do not need to do anything to get started because letters will be sent to them automatically.

Along with the invitation, or 30 days before receiving their first result letter, women will be sent a privacy notice ( Keeping Your Personal Health Information Safe and Secure ) to inform them about our cancer screening programs and how their information is protected.

This notice also provides our contact information for women who do not want cancer screening letters sent to them or who have questions about cancer screening. They can call us toll-free at 1-866-662-9233 from Monday to Friday between 8:30am and 5pm or send an email to screenforlife@cancercare.on.ca .

The privacy notice will not be sent to women who have previously received letters from the Ontario Cervical Screening Program.

Women can change their minds about receiving OBSP letters from Cancer Care Ontario at any time.

Before March 2014, women attending OBSP sites were asked to complete a consent form. We will contiinue to honour the restrictions related to the use of their personal health information.
