Cancer System Map

The North East Regional Cancer Program oversees the quality and delivery of cancer services for the residents of Algoma, Cochrane, Manitoulin-Sudbury, Nipissing, Parry Sound, Temiskaming, and the James Bay and Hudson Bay Coasts.

About the Northeast Cancer Centre at Health Sciences North

The Northeast Cancer Centre (NECC) of Health Sciences North is one of fourteen cancer programs in Ontario. The NECC is a Cancer Care Ontario (CCO) partner which serves a population of more than 600,000 in Northeastern Ontario.

The Cancer Centre in Sudbury was opened in November 1990 to provide Radiation Treatment, Chemotherapy and Supportive Care Services to the residents of Northeastern Ontario. The Cancer Centre currently receives over 3000 new cancer patients each year, and conducts approximately 15,000 chemotherapy visits and 38,000 radiation therapy visits, saving Northern Ontario residents afflicted with cancer and their families the cost and inconvenience of traveling to Southern Ontario for treatment.

At the Northeast Cancer Centre, a team of world-renowned doctors, scientists and researchers work on a variety of research and clinical trials that regularly attract the attention of the international medical community.

In addition to Chemotherapy and Radiation Treatment programs, the NECC offers a wide range of support services which include:

Mark Hartman

Mark Hartman MRT(T), MBA, CHE

Cancer Care Ontario Regional Vice President, North East Regional Cancer Program

Mark Hartman completed a Bachelor of Applied Science Degree in Radiation Therapy in Melbourne, Australia in 1989. Since arriving in Sudbury in 1992, he worked as a radiation therapist at the Northeastern Ontario Regional Cancer Centre before entering management positions, first supervising Radiation Treatment Planning then managing the Radiation Treatment Program. Between 2000 and 2004 Mark was Director of the $44M Cancer Centre capital expansion project.

In 2004, Mark became the Administrative Director of the Regional Cancer Program of the Sudbury Regional Hospital with administrative responsibility for regional programs providing direct and indirect clinical services in Systemic Treatment, Supportive Care, Inpatient Acute Medicine, Radiation Treatment, Palliative Care, Preventive Oncology and Surgical Oncology. He completed a Masters in Business Administration through Athabasca University in 2009 and is currently the Vice President of Cancer and Clinical Support Services as well as the Regional Vice President of Cancer Care Ontario.
